LUDHIANA: Ironically, when the Congress high command had ordered Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh to keep his ministers together and united, blatant factionalism amidst Congressmen had come to fore in Ludhiana on Sunday.
When the Congress leaders and workers, including the chief minister and PPCC president Hanspal Singh gathered for a state-level function on the occasion of the Vishwakarma Day in Ludhiana, minister for higher education Harnam Das Johar lambasted city mayor Nahar Singh Gill, a Congressmen, for the development works and civic amenities in the city.
Johar ridiculed his claim of providing drinking water to all parts of the city. He said his own area had more than one-third population deprived of drinking water, but the mayor and MC commissioner S K Sharma had been making tall claims. The minister and the local municipal corporation had been at loggerheads ever since the former joined his office.
The fight continued beyond the dias. After his speech, when Johar sat next to the CM, he was pointing fingers at the mayor while addressing some problems. However, the CM took the issue lightly and claimed that there was no disagreement in the party at local or state level.
Also, the CM could not justify how and why Hanspal Singh assured the Ludhiana industrialist that the exim form would be waived off without his consent.
